The method behind the calculation
Assumptions and limits
Container count is a lower bound based on volume and weight. Dimensions, doors, stacking and layout are not checked; verify them in the 3D planner. The chart varies volume at a fixed cargo weight. A crossing is shown only within the one-container range.
Follow the example calculation.
For 18 m³ and 5,000 kg, with 1 m³ equivalent to 1,000 kg and a minimum of 1 unit, the charge basis is 18 units. At an LCL rate of 110 plus 350 in fixed charges, the total is 2,330. A full-container quote of 2,400 is 70 higher. All amounts are examples in the same currency.
Frequently asked questions
At what volume do LCL and FCL cost the same?
In this example, (2,400 − 350) / 110 ≈ 18.64 m³. The crossing is relevant only above the weight/minimum charge floor and within one container’s capacity. Different quotes give a different threshold.
Can cargo fail to fit even if volume is below capacity?
Yes. Long pieces, door dimensions, stacking restrictions and gaps can prevent a fit. This count is only a volume/weight lower bound. Check dimensions separately in the 3D loading tool.
Which charges should I include in the quotes?
Use matching delivery scope in both quotes. Compare origin, destination, terminal and other fixed charges included in each offer. This tool does not retrieve live rates or estimate omitted charges.
